PHILADELPHIA-- Bill Mannino, who captained the Temple University golf team as a senior in 1996, has been named the new head coach of the Owls, it was announced today by Dave O'Brien, Director of Athletics.

Mannino, 27, replaces John MacDonald, who retired from the position on June 30 after a highly successful 30-year career with the Owls.

"In consideration of the tremendous job John MacDonald has done with our golf program over these many years, it is most gratifying to announce the appointment of an alumnus to carry on its fine tradition," said O'Brien.

Mannino's collegiate playing career with the Owls was highlighted by the medalist championship of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament in 1993 and an individual first at the Fairleigh Dickinson Tournament in 1996. Behind Mannino's outstanding play between 1993 and 1996, coach MacDonald's teams thrived, as the Owls captured an A-10 title and qualified for the NCAA Tournament four times.

Following his graduation from Temple University, Mannino competed as a professional on the Teardrop, South Florida and Triangle Golf Tours. He served as an assistant golf professional at both the Cricket Club of Philadelphia and the Roanoke (Virginia) Country Club, where he gave playing instructions and helped to manage competitive tournament events. Most recently, Mannino served as an advertising consultant with the Roanoke Times.

"It is truly an honor to be following John MacDonald as the head golf coach at Temple University," said Mannino. "My intention is to maintain the high standards set by coach MacDonald both academically and competitively."
