PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple Cheerleaders and Dance team participated in the National Cheerleading Association and the National Dance Alliance Instructional camp on August 7-10. Both teams won several awards and received top honors in various categories. " I am very pleased with the direction the program is going," said Head Cheerleading and Dance Coach, Ryan Maag.
On the first day of camp the best male and female tumbler awards went to Kenny Wisneowski and Allison Genco of the Temple Coed Varsity cheerleading team. Both the cheerleading and dance teams also received superior rankings.
Out of 23 Universities and over 700 camp participants five dancers and five cheerleaders are chosen for the All-American Team. Three of Temple's dancers including Julianne Brown, Marianne Demitiou and Hilary Cottone were named to the team. This honor is one of the highest honors a cheerleader or dancer can receive on an individual basis.
On the final day of camp the Temple Owls dance team won first place in the Best Dance Routine competition and was named Most Collegiate Team and the Best All-Around Dance Team. The Coed Varsity cheerleading team won the Best Spirit Rou0tine award and was named Best All-Around cheerleading team. The All-Girl Varsity cheerleading team also received the Best Sprit Routine award as well as a superior ranking throughout the camp. To cap off the day, "Hooter The Owl" was named Best All-Around Mascot.
"We get better and better each year. We are looking forward to having all three teams nationally ranked," Maag said.
