OWLS SHUTOUT HAWKS 3-0, WIN FIRST A-10 MATCH

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University men's soccer team (2-4-1, 1-0) shutout the Saint Joseph's Hawks 3-0 in a hard fought Atlantic 10 opener on Saturday, September 29, 2001 at Temple Stadium.
Freshman forward Nate Webb scored the first goal of the game for the Owls with an assist from fellow freshman forward Steven Wacker just 2 minutes into the game. Freshman Vinny Mountney scored the second goal of the game just ten minutes later in the first half with the assist coming from senior midfielder Jim Rasich. The third goal for the Owls came on a penalty kick from junior midfielder John Burns at the 11:56 mark in the game. Webb, Wacker and Mountney all had three shots on goal for the day.
Rounding out the play for the Owls was goalie Patrick Hannigan who had seven saves on the day and his second shutout of the year.
The Hawks were led by senior midfielder Ryan Dougherty who had four shots and goalie Kaevin Dougher with six saves.
The Owls travel to the University of Virginia on October 2, 2001. Game time is at 7 p.m.
