OWLS LOSE IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

PHILADELPHIA --The Temple men's soccer team lost 4-3 in double overtime against Long Island University in their home opener today, September 5.

Freshman forward Vinny Mountney scored the first goal with an assist from fellow freshman forward Nate Webb less than ten minutes into the game. Goalie Patrick Hannigan who added four more saves to his total kept Long Island at bay until the end of the first half when LIU's Dave Schofield scored.

The Owls came back strong in the second half when Mountney scored his second goal of the game with an assist from senior midfielder Jeff Fisher. With 24 minutes left in the game, Temple led 3-1 after a goal from Webb with an assist from junior John Burns. Long Island answered back with two goals of their own by Matt Paradise and Ricardo Jerome to force the game into overtime.

A second overtime was needed to finish the game after a scoreless first overtime. Long Island' s Casey Madigan scored the game-winning goal at 12:02.

The Owls face Rider on September 9 at Temple Stadium at 1:00 p.m.
