TEMPLE WOMEN FALL AT ST. BONAVENTURE

1.20.02 | Women's Basketball

Olean, N.Y. -- The Temple women's basketball team (9-8, 4-2) lost its second consecutive Atlantic 10 Conference game of the season when it suffered a 83-76 loss to St. Bonaventure (10-7, 4-2) on January 20. The Owls were outshot 49 percent to 37 percent and outrebounded 46-26 as the Bonnies had four players register double-figure scoring numbers. Temple held a 71-70 lead with just 4:24 remaining, its first lead since the opening moments of the game, but it did not last as St. Bonaventure outscored the Owls 13-5 down the stretch.

"We didn't lose the game offensively, we lost the game defensively," said Temple coach Dawn Staley. "We weren't able to get stops when we needed them. Once you're able to tie the game and take the lead, it's about getting stops and we didn't do that," she continued.

Senior guard Natalia Isaac led Temple with a season-high 29 points on 8-15 (53 percent) shooting. Isaac was 11-11 from the free throw line, had three assists and a steal. Lisa Jakubowicz (13 points, six rebounds, three steals) and Stacey Smalls (11 points) were the other double figure scorers for the Owls. Temple shot well from the free throw line, hitting 27-30 (90 percent) from the charity stripe. The Owls were without the services of forward Athena Christoforakis due to a foot injury. Her status is day to day.

Courtney Mattingly led St. Bonaventure with 18 points. Christina Cole (15 points, 12 rebounds), Stefanie Collins (15 points) and Caitlin Crist (11 points) were the other key contributors for the Bonnies.

Next up for Temple, the long ride back to Philadelphia for a home game with Fordham on Thursday, January 24 at 7:00 p.m.
