PHILADELPHIA POLICE AND FIRE FIGHTERS SQUARE OFF ON FIELD IN "BATTLE OF THE BADGE" AT VETERANS STADIUM

Members of the Philadelphia Police Department and Philadelphia Fire Fighters take part in a charity touch football game on Saturday, November 2 at Veterans Stadium, following the Temple-West Virginia football game. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Hero Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to children of firefighters or police officers who lost their lives or were permanently disabled in the line of duty.

"Temple Athletics is proud to be a part of what we hope will be a brand new tradition," said Temple University Associate Athletic Director Don Haskin. "There's nothing more Philadelphia than cops, fire fighters and Temple University. We're looking forward to a great game and a great crowd."

The post-game "Battle of the Badge" will feature eight-man teams, an 80-yard field, automatic rush, as well as plenty of running and passing plays.

Lt. Jim Smith has been a police officer since 1990. A decade ago, he organized a rough-touch league in the department. Last year marked the first time a team from the Fire Department played.

"I always thought something like this would be a great idea," said Smith. "But, I was never quite sure how to get it going. Now we have to run with it, so that it becomes an annual thing."

Tickets for this exciting event featuring the Temple-West Virginia football game beginning at noon, the "Battle of the Badge" football game and access to the pre-game Funland Block Party outside Veterans Stadium are only $5, and are available by calling 215-389-9543.

"For $5, you get to see two games," said Smith. "If you saw the good the money will do, there's no reason not to be there."

Tickets to all Temple football home games are $5, $10 and $20, and are available at the Liacouras Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations throughout the Delaware Valley. Tickets can also be charged by phone by calling Ticketmaster at (215) 336-2000, (856) 338-9000 or (302) 984-2000.
