MEN'S SOCCER LOSING STREAK CONTINUES AS OWLS FALL TO MASSACHUSETTS 3-0

PHILADELPHIA-- Their losing streak set at three, the Temple University men's soccer team (5-11, 2-6 A-10) was shutout by the Massachusetts Minutemen 3-0 this afternoon, October 25, 2002 at Temple Stadium. Massachusetts remains unbeaten in conference play.

The minutemen were on the board early when senior Jeff Deren scored on a breakaway down center field, giving UMass the 1-0 advantage at halftime. In the second period, senior Andrew Eicher scored Massachusetts' seconds goal of the game on a ten yard shot to the left of the net. Their third goal would come in the 86th minute of play when Owls goalie Patrick Hannigan was caught out of the net and Ptah Meyers of UMass found the back of the net. The Owls managed 11 shots on goal but could not take advantage of any of their scoring opportunities.

Temple's goalie, Hannigan, played ninety minutes in the net and posted seven saves. Massachusetts goalie, Enzo Altomare also played ninety minutes and contributed seven saves.

The Cherry and White, under the direction of third year Head Coach David MacWilliams, try to end their losing streak Sunday afternoon, October 27 when they take on the Rhode Island Rams. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
