RUTGERS TAKES 1ST ROUND LEAD IN TEMPLE MacDONALD CLASSIC

ABSECON, NJ-- Rutgers took the first-round lead in the inaugural John MacDonald Classic golf tournament hosted by Temple University, played today at Galloway National Golf Club in Absecon, New Jersey.

Coach Maura Waters-Gendelman's Scarlet Knights totaled a first-round score of 300 to edge Temple and Iona, which finished in a second place tie at 305. Rutgers was led by juniors Brent Pittman and Brian Whitman, who posted respective scores of 71 and 73 to place second and fourth in the medallist competition. Iona freshman Angus McAllister was the low individual with a three-under-par round of 68. For Temple, junior Jerry Chen finished with a one-over-par 72.

The first-round team scores were: Rutgers (300), Temple and Iona (305), Delaware (308), Fordham (320), Duquesne (324), Connecticut (328), Loyola of Maryland (328), Dartmouth (331) and La Salle (339). The 10-team, 36-hole tournament will conclude tomorrow on the challenging 6,700-yard, par 71 course at Galloway.
