The Owls landed the most prestigious blue-chip prospect to commit to a local women's program. Britney Jordan, a 5-8 point guard from Peoria Illinois, signed a national letter of intent to play for the Owls next season. Jordan, who averaged 31 points and 10 rebounds per game last season for Woodruff High School, expressed her desire to play for Temple and learn from its renowned head coach. "Dawn Staley is the best point guard in the world," said Jordan. "I know I can learn from her and improve my game." Jordan is considered the fifth-overall senior prospect in the nation by some scouting publications. She picked Temple over Arkansas and Southern Cal.
Temple also added to its frontcourt during the early signing period when the Owls signed Kamesha Hairston, a six-foot senior forward at Bowsher High School in Toledo, Ohio. Hairston averaged 19 points and nine rebounds per game as a junior. She was an Associated Press third-team all-state honoree and was named the top returning star in Toledo by the Toledo Blade.
"Signing Britney brings instant national attention to our program," said Staley. "Her commitment is going to help our team tremendously both on and off the court regarding top notch recruits. Players will want to play with Britney because she helps elevate the play of those around her."
"Kamesha is probably the biggest sleeper in the 2003 class," said Staley. "A lot of schools backed off recruiting her because of her injury. But even with a torn ACL we feel she can give us what we need -- a player who is versatile and will create match-up problems for other teams."
