TEMPLE GOLFERS FINISH FIFTH AT GRENDEZZA INTERCOLLEGIATE

The Temple University golf team, in its first action of the spring season, finished fifth out of 14 teams at the Grendezza Intercollegiate Invitational in Estero, Florida, March 15-17, 2002. The Owls finished with a three-round 922 (310-307-305). Florida Gulf Coast University, the tournament host, won the invitational with a 862 (286-284-292) team score.
Jon Rusk, playing in first position for the Owls, led the team with a 224 (+8, 79-71-74) score to finish in fifth place. Robert Whiting also placed in the top ten, shooting a three-round 226 (+10, 76-77-73) to finish tied for eighth. Gerry Chen shot a 228 (+12, 74-77-77) to place tied for twelfth.
Other Temple competitors included Billy Mullin (T-45th, 81-84-81-246), James Chan (T-52nd, 87-82-84-253) and Pat O'Neil (64th, 83-94-90-267).
FGCU's Derek Lamely won the tournament with a three-round 210 (-6, 71-70-69).
