TEMPLE GOLFERS PLACE 12TH AT LIBERTY SPRING CLASSIC

The Temple University golf team placed 12th out of 13 teams at the Liberty Spring Classic at the Water's Edge Country Club in Penhook, Va., April 8-9, 2002. The Owls posted a two-round 636 (317-319) to finish 39 strokes behind tournament champion Maryland (307-290-597).

Junior Gerry Chen was the Owls top finisher, placing tied for 29th with a 155 effort (+11, 77-78). Freshman Billy Mullin also performed well, shooting a 158 (+14, 81-77) to finish 44th.

Other Temple finishers included James Chan (T-49th, 80-80-160), Pat O'Neil (T-53rd, 79-84-163) and Matt Roberts (67, 87-86-173).

Maryland's Corey Bingham won the Classic with a 142 score (-2, 76-66).

Junior Jon Rusk, who competes in first position for the Owls, did not participate in the tournament.

Temple, under the direction of first-year head coach Bill Mannino, returns to action, April 12-13, at the Princeton Invitational at the Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, N.J.
