TEMPLE GOLFERS FINISH NINTH AT RHODE ISLAND SPRING INVITATIONAL

The Temple University golf team, in its final regular season tournament of the spring, finished ninth out of 18 teams at the Rhode Island Spring Invitational at the Green Valley Country Club (Par 71) in Portsmouth, R.I., April 26-27, 2002. The Owls finished with a two-round 642 (322-320). The University of Rhode Island, the tournament host, won the invitational with a 609 (312-297) team score.
Temple was one of two Philadelphia schools in the tournament. The Owls finished 16 strokes ahead of Philly foe and Atlantic 10 rival Saint Joseph's (15th, 327-331-658).
Pat O'Neil led the team with a 157 (75-82) score to finish tied for 14th place. Jon Rusk also placed in the top twenty, shooting a two-round 158 (80-78) to finish tied for 17th.
Other Temple competitors included Gerry Chen (T-58th, 89-77-166), James Chan (T-64th, 84-83-167) and Billy Mullin (T-64th, 83-84-167).
URI's Jason Lockwood won the tournament with a two-round 146 (72-74).
