OWLS SHUTOUT BY WILDCATS IN HOME OPENER 3-0

9.10.02 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA -- It was not a happy homecoming for the Temple University men's soccer team (0-3, 0-0 A-10) when they were shutout by the Villanova Wildcats 3-0 in the Owl's season opener today, September 10, 2002 at Temple Stadium. The game was also the first for both teams in the Philadelphia Soccer Seven League.

Villanova scored early in the first period when forward Chris Edgar swept the ball past a diving Owls goalie to find the back of the net in the 34th minute of the game. One more goal by freshman forward Charlie Rowan just four minutes before the end of period one game the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage going in to the half. Although Temple's offensive power had more of a spark in the second period, they were unable to find the net. A third goal by Villanova's Brett Strassfurth sealed the win for the Wildcats.

Goalie Patrick Hannigan led the way for the Owls posting nine saves in 88 minutes in goal.

The Owls are back in action this weekend when they face Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday, September 15 and Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, September 16. Both games start 2:00 p.m.
