PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University men's soccer team (2-4) notched their second win of the season this afternoon, September 18, 2002 as they defeated Philadelphia University 4-1.
Philadelphia scored the first goal in the 31st minute of the game on a straight shot to the left corner of the net. That was all it would take for Temple's offense to explode and take over the led. Freshman Joe Brocker scored his first collegiate goal towards the end of the first period after getting the ball from forward Vinny Mountney and shooting it in the right corner of the net.
In the second period, sophomore Steven Wacker scored on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute of the game followed, just seven minutes later, by a shot to the right corner of the net by freshman Tony Donatelli past a diving Rams goalie. The goal was also Donatelli's first of his career. The Owls fourth and final goal came in minute 76 when sophomore Nick Burke caught a throw-in by junior Matt Moran and kicked the ball in to the left corner of the net.
Owls goalie Patrick Hannigan allowed just one goal and posted five saves while Rams goalie Scott Nixon allowed four goals and contributed four saves.
The men's soccer team is back on the road this weekend as they battle Long Island University on Saturday, September 21, 2002. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
