OWLS DEFEAT LONG ISLAND 2-1 FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

9.22.02 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University men's soccer team (3-4) notched their second straight win yesterday, September 21, 2002 when they defeated the Long Island Blackbirds 2-1.

Long Island was on the board first on a shot to the right side of the net by junior David Schofield. Freshman Joe Brocker tallied his second goal in as many games when he caught a header off forward Anthony Donatelli for a straight shot to the back of the net and a tied score. Freshman Bryan Laverdure scored the first goal of this collegiate career and the game winner in the 38th minute of period one after catching a pass off a corner kick from junior Matt Moran and booting the ball five yards into the net. That was all the Owls would need to secure the win.

Owls Goalie Patrick Hannigan made six saves including five over the final 45 minutes of the game.

Temple, under the direction of three-year Head Coach David MacWilliams, returns home to face cross town rival University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, September 25, 2002. Game time is 3:30 p.m. at Penn.
