TEMPLE GOLFERS FINISH 10TH AT MCLAUGHLIN INVITATIONAL

9.29.02 | Men's Golf

The Temple University golf team shot a two-round 594 (293-301-594, +34) to finish 10th at the 18-team McLaughlin Invitational at the Bethpage Red Course in Farmingdale, N.Y., September 28-29, 2002.

The Owls, under the direction of second-year head coach Bill Mannino, finshed ahead of Atlantic 10 rival Richmond (12th, 599) and in front of crosstown rivals Penn (11th, 597) and Villanova(16th, 608).

Host St. John's captured the team title, finishing two strokes better than second-place Princeton. The Red Storm's Andrew Svoboda won the tournament with a two-round 134 (64-70), four shots better than James Madison's Jay Woodson and Iona's Mark LeVeck.

A highlight of the tournament came when Brian Whitman, playing for Rutgers, recorded a hole-in-one on the par three 4th during the second round.

The McLaughlin was orginally scheduled for three rounds but inclement weather forced the reduction of the event.

The Owls return to the links next weekend, October 4-5, as they host the Temple Invitational at the Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pa.
