WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO RICHMOND IN OVERTIME

Sophomore guard Cynthia Jordan, who hails from nearby Deep Creek, Virginia, led Temple with 17 points. Jordan also had four assists and two steals in her homecoming. Senior Stacey Smalls (12) and junior Christena Hamilton (11) were the other Owls who scored in double figures. Freshman center Candice Dupree, who tallied nine points, led Temple in rebounding with 13 boards while senior Chrissy Cruz, who scored six points, grabbed 11 rebounds.
Ebony Tanner paced Richmond with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Amber Goppert (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Kate Flavin (10 points, 12 rebounds) also had double-doubles for the Spiders.
Temple won the steals (14-6) and turnover (TU 16, UR 19) battles but was out-rebounded 49-43. The Owls shot 34.8 percent from the field but 43.8 percent from beyond the arc. After sending the game into overtime on a Candice Dupree put back in the closing seconds, Temple was outscored 14-7 in the extra session.
The Owls return home to face St. Bonaventure on Sunday, February 2 at the Liacouras Center. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
