TEMPLE DOWNS LA SALLE, 3-0, FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN IN MEN'S SOCCER
10.12.03 | Men's Soccer
After a scoreless first half, Moran opened the scoring at the 47:55 mark as he finished a ball in front of the goal off a pass from freshman Ryan Heins. Less than a minute later, Moran took a long feed from sophomore Nick Ebersole and drilled it past La Salle keeper Stash Graham (six saves). Moran concluded the scoring on the afternoon by finding Ebersole in front of the goal for the Owls' third tally.
"If you look back in the record books this has to be up there for Temple University (for shortest time span for three goals)," said Owl head coach David MacWilliams. "It changed the whole game. It was a battle the first half and we came out on fire in the second half and did a great job finishing."
Junior goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan (one save) recorded his fourth shutout in six matches on the season. Today his defense led by Shelton, Joe Brocker, Tim Greer and Tony Viglietti helped limit La Salle to one weak shot on goal.
Both teams emptied their benches as the second half wore on with Temple using 23 players in the match.
"We brought in a lot of kids last year and started seven or eight freshmen," explained MacWilliams on the difference between this year and last year. "We knew back then last year that short-term it was not going to be good for us but we were hoping long-term that it was. They got some experience and then we added a few pieces with Chris Shelton and Heinsy (Ryan Heins) and Matt Maher. We even got some other freshmen that saw some time today."
"We are building this program to be successful for a number of years ahead."
Temple will take to the road next weekend playing at St. Bonaventure on Friday and at Duquesne on Sunday.
