PHILADELPHIA - At last, the Temple University men's soccer team is starting to gain respect nationally. The Owls, which lead the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 5-0-1 record (9-2-2 overall), are ranked third in the latest NSCAA/adidas Division I Middle Atlantic region poll and are one of four teams listed among the "also receiving votes" category in latest NSCAA/adidas Top 25 released on October 20.

Sophomore sweeper Joe Brocker earned national honors as well, as he was selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week for the week ending October 19. Brocker anchored a Temple defensive unit to consecutive 1-0 road shutout wins over St. Bonaventure and #22 Duquesne this past weekend. In the upset of the Dukes on Sunday (10/19), he assisted on the Owls' game-winning goal.

Junior Patrick Hannigan, who recorded both shutouts to up his A-10-leading total to six on the season, is ranked second nationally in goals against average with a 0.237 gaa. Hannigan has allowed just two goals in his eight matches in the net for Temple, and has a stellar .949 save percentage.

Temple, which sports one of the nation's best turnarounds following a 6-13-1 season in 2002, will put its undefeated conference mark to the test when it takes on the league's only other unbeaten squad, Richmond (6-4-4, 3-0-3) on Friday afternoon at Temple stadium (3:00 p.m.). The Owls then host George Washington on Sunday (1:00 p.m.) in their final match at the Temple Stadium. Temple will play its home games at its new Ambler Sports Complex in 2003.
