GALLOWAY, NJ-Eleven collegiate golf squads hit the links today in windy and overcast conditions at Galloway National Golf Club for the first round of the annual John MacDonald Classic hosted by Temple University. Loyola took the lead after 18 holes, shooting a 309 on the par 71, 6,374-yard course.

Delaware shot a 311 to finish two strokes behind the Greyhounds. Penn enters day two in third place after posting a 314 Monday. The Owls, under the direction of third-year head coach Bill Mannino, ended day one in fourth place with a 315 performance.

Individually, the Blue Hens' Dan Spiker sits atop the leaderboard after shooting a three-over 74. Loyola's T.J. Shuart is on Spiker's heels with a one-stroke-behind 75 effort. Six players are tied for third place after day one. Included among them is Temple's Billy Mullen.

Other Owl first round performers were Logan Terry (T-9th, 77), Matt Roberts (T-28th, 81), Pat O'Neill (T-28th, 81) and James Chan (T-46th, 86).

The second and final round of the Classic tees-off tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
