PHILADELPHIA -- Junior goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan notched a season-high 10 saves and stopped a penalty kick to help Temple post a 0-0 tie with visiting Dayton at Temple Stadium in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams.

Hannigan, who has allowed just one goal over four matches since his return from a broken arm, lowered his goals against average to 0.22 and his save percentage to .968, both A-10 bests. He faced two penalty kicks in a six-minute span midway through the second half, the first, by Dayton's Chris Rolfe, hit the left post while the second one he stopped off the foot of Christian Porto.

"That was a big lift or us," stated Temple head coach David MacWilliams on Hannigan's save on the penalty kick. "We are happy with the tie, especially with two PKs against us. He (Hannigan) is a big part of this team."

The Philadelphia native, who now has three shutouts on the year, made three of his 10 saves in the overtime periods, with his best being a diving save to his left in the 103rd minute of play off the foot of George Nanchoff.

Temple, which was out-shot 20-7, had its best chance come in the first minute of the first overtime. Senior Matt Moran fed freshman Matt Maher on the left side. Maher moved past a Dayton defender and went in alone on Flyer keeper Matt Handy. Maher, however, shot just high as Handy (three saves) came out to challenge.

Temple played without the services of its leading goal scorer, junior Nate Webb (3 goals), who sat out the game due to a red-card infraction in the team's 1-0 loss to Penn on September 24.

The Owls, now 4-2-2 on the season, will host Xavier on Sunday afternoon at Temple Stadium (1:00 p.m.). Dayton, 5-1-2, will stay in Philadelphia and take on Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon.
