MEN'S SOCCER BLANKS XAVIER, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's soccer team defeated Xavier University, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Temple Stadium. With the win against the Musketeers, the Owls upped their record to 5-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in Atlantic 10 play.

The Owls and Musketeers played evenly throughout much of the first half. With less than two minutes beofre intermission, the Owls struck. Junior Nate Webb found the back of the net on a shot taken from the middle of the box. After slightly more than two minutes into the second half, junior Steven Wacker drilled the ball into the corner of the goal to account for the Owls other goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Thompson recorded his second career shutout for the Owls with four saves. Xavier's goaltender, Brian Schaeper, registered eight saves.

The Owls next play Fordham on Friday, October 10 (4:00 p.m.) at Temple Stadium.
