TEMPLE TO TAKE ON RHODE ISLAND IN A-10 MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP

11.15.03 | Men's Soccer

RICHMOND, VA - Temple University will take the First Market Stadium field on Sunday afternoon against Rhode Island looking to cap a highly successful season with its first ever Atlantic 10 Championship. The Owls, 13-5-3 overall, will also be seeking their first NCAA Tournament bid since 1985.

A-10 Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Hannigan will look to shutdown a Ram offensive that has been hot of late. URI, which handed Temple one of its three league losses on Nov, 2, is one of only two opponents to score more than one goal against the Cherry and White's tough defense. The Rams won that contest, 3-2, a loss that helped keep the Owls from garnering a share of the regular season A-10 crown.

Junior Nate Webb, who ranks third in the league with 11 goals, leads the Temple offense with two goals in the tourney so far. Tony Donatelli, who has seven goals, ranks second on the squad.

Temple is the tournament's #3 seed, while URI, at 12-9-1, is the #5 seed. Match time is 1:00 p.m.
