TEMPLE WOMEN ADVANCE AT 2003 USAG COLLEGIATE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Co-host Texas Woman's University opened the women's semifinals by winning the beam title with a 48.475 and never looked back, scoring a meet best 194.650 to finish in first place. Seattle Pacific came in second with a 192.675 and two-time defending national champion Air Force in fourth with a 192.175
California-Davis (191.550), Centenary College (191.475), Cornell (190.725) and the Bridgeport (185.675) rounded out the top eight teams in the semifinal competition. As a team, TWU won the balance beam and vault (48.650) titles and came in second to Air Force on floor with a 49.125, compared to the Falcons 49.150. Cornell won the bars title with a 48.675, followed by Centenary in second with a 48.525 and the Pioneers in third with a 48.400.
TWU senior Luci Romberg won her first USAG national title in the all-around with a score of 39.250 after coming in third her freshman and sophomore seasons. Rounding out the top eight finishers, who earned USAG All-America status along with Romberg, are; Laura Frank, Air Force, 39.050, Allison Todd, Air Force, 39.000, Lindsey Clowers, Texas Woman's, 38.750, Corrie McDaniel, Seattle Pacific, 38.525, Erin Davis, Temple, 38.475, Sarah Wesley, Southern Connecticut, 38.250, and Lynn Schwaebe, UC-Davis, 38.225.
The top eight finishers on vault, bars, beam and floor earn USAG All-America honors and will move on to compete in the Individual Event Finals on Saturday, April 19. Kari Kelly of Seattle Pacific won the vault with a score of 9.775, followed by Luci Romberg and Jessica Brozovich from TWU in a tie for second with a 9.750 and their teammates Lindsey Clowers and Kim Holland in a tie for fourth place with a 9.725. Lynn Schwaebe of UC-Davis, Rachel Anderson of Seattle Pacific and Dana Giametta of TWU all tied for sixth place with a score of 9.700. Romberg earned her second title of the night on bars with a top score of 9.875, followed by her teammates, Stephanie Loudat and Chelsie Leggett in a tie for second place with a 9.850. Jennie Jackson (Centenary, 9.825), Paige Ozaroski (Temple, 9.825), Kristen Strid (Seattle Pacific, 9.825), Allison Todd (Air Force, 9.800) and Janelle Thibault (Centenary, 9.800) rounded out the top eight finishers on bars.
Air Force's Laura Frank and TWU's Stephanie Loudat tied for the top spot on beam with a 9.825, followed by Erin Davis of Temple in third with a 9.775. The Pioneers' Luci Romberg tied with teammate Lindsey Clowers and Temple's Jennifer Beaver in fourth place with a 9.750 while Shellen Goltz came in seventh with a 9.725. Allison Todd of Air Force and Paige Ozaroski of Temple tied for eighth place with a score of 9.700. Three Pioneers, Romberg, Amber McMeans and Jonica Scott tied with Tiffany Chan of UC-Davis for the floor title with a score of 9.875. Laura Frank and Allison Todd of Air Force, Cicely Warrington of Temple and Sarah Racioppi of Centenary rounded out the top eight finishers as they tied for fifth place with a score of 9.850.
Texas Woman's led all schools with 16 gymnasts earning USAG All-America status with Luci Romberg finishing with a career-high four honors coming on vault, bars, beam and the all-around. Allison Todd of Air Force tied Romberg with her four All-America honors coming on bars, beam, floor and the all-around.
Friday's schedule at the 2003 USAG Collegiate National Championships includes the Men's Team Final beginning at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Women's Team Final at 7:00 p.m.
