KETTERING, OH - The Temple University golf team shots a three-round 920 (302-306-312) to finish seventh at the 2003 Atlantic 10 Championship at the NCR Country Club South Course in Kettering, OH, May 2-4, 2003.

Junior James Chan finished fourth individually to earn all-conference honors, shooting a 222 (74-74-74). It marked his sixth career top 10 finish and second in as many weeks. He placed tied for fifth at the Rutherford Intercollegiate in State College, Pa. last weekend.

Xavier won its second title in three years and third overall by shooting 895 (+43) for the weekend on the par-71 course which is annually ranked in Golf Digest's Top 100 golf courses. The Musketeers earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.

Saint Joseph's finished in second, marking its highest finish ever in the Championship. The Hawks - leaders after Saturday's second round - shot a final-round 303 and finished at 902 (+50) for the tournament. Rhode Island closed with a solid 295 Sunday and finished third at 908 (+56). Host Dayton, which shared the lead with Xavier after Friday's first round, finished tied for fourth with Richmond at 913 (+61). Rounding out the 2003 field were: George Washington (914), St. Bonaventure (922), Duquesne (964), Fordham (977) and La Salle (996).

The venerable course, which saw Raymond Floyd win the PGA Championship in 1969, was dominated by rookies on the weekend. SJU freshman Billy Stewart (Devon, PA) shot a two-over par 215 (74-70-71) for the three-day tournament and edged XU freshman Andy Pope (Glen Ellyn, PA) by a stroke for individual medalist honors. Stewart's victory marked the first time in A-10 history a rookie has captured the medalist award.

By way of the individual title, Stewart earned the A-10's Most Outstanding Player award as well as the A-10's Most Outstanding Rookie award. Coach of the Year honors went to SJU's Bob Lynch.
