FORMER OWL GOLFER TOM CARTER CAPTURES SAMSUNG CANADIAN PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
7.8.03 | Men's Golf
Carter defeated Jason Bohn in a playoff Sunday to capture the trophy in Canada's second oldest professional tournament. Carter and Bohn finished regulation at 9-under-par 275, one shot in front of Blaine McCallister (68).
Carter, playing in the group in front of Bohn, capped off a tremendous up-and-down by rolling in a 15-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to pull within one shot of the leader. Bohn then bogeyed the final hole to force the playoff.
Carter then parred the first extra hole to notch his first career win on the Nationwide Tour, topping his previous best finish -- a tie for second at the 2001 Nationwide Tour Championship.
With the victory, Carter collects a career-best $81,000 and moves from No. 54 to No. 10 on the Nationwide Tour money list with $115,756. Perhaps even more important comes fully-exempt status on the Nationwide Tour for the remainder of 2003 and 2004, as well as moving a step closer to the PGA Tour.
