Former golfer Tom Carter shot a 7-under par 65 on Sunday, August 17, to hold off Doug LaBelle II and Roland Thatcher by a stroke to capture his second Nationwide Tour title of the year, the Price Cutter Charity Championship in Springfield, Missouri, moving him to within one victory of a promotion to the PGA Tour.

Carter had a 21-under 267 total, and earned $94,500. to jump from 10th to third on the money list with $270,346. The top 20 at the end of the season will earn 2004 PGA Tour cards.

"This is huge," said Carter who went 67 tour events before winning the Canadian PGA last month. "The first one seemed to elude me so many times. I felt so much more patient this time around."

The former Temple letterwinner played under now retired head coach John MacDonald from 1987-89.

"I've been working my whole life to get to the PGA Tour," said Carter. "I was right around the $175,000 mark and the guys were telling me that would be close to the number at the end of the year. I just wanted a couple of good finishes down the stretch."
