MEN'S SOCCER OPENS SEASON WITH 3-1 WIN OVER CLEVELAND STATE

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Temple University men's soccer team jumped all over Cleveland State in its season opener, tallying three first half goals en route to a 3-1 win at the Duquesne Classic. Nate Webb put Temple on the board in the 10th minute with an assist coming from Tim Greer. Anthony Donatelli notched the Owls second goal of the contest midway through the first half with Matt Maher and Nick Ebersole assisting on the play. Kevin Gallagher concluded the scoring for Temple with Maher picking up his second assist.. The Owls out-shot the Vikings, 14-3 in the opening period.

Cleveland State came out on the attack in the second half, firing seven shots at Temple goalkeeper Sean Thompson. The Vikings, however, were able to tally just one goal, that coming in the 60th minute off the foot of Spencer Lappin. Thompson, who was starting in place of an injured Patrick Hannigan (broken arm), notched two saves on the day in recording the win. CSU keeper Amir Kettani made seven saves on the day.

Temple, 1-0, will face Buffalo on Saturday (5:00 p.m.) in its final game of the Duquesne Classic. The host Dukes, which defeated Buffalo, 4-0, on Friday night, will host Cleveland State (7:30 p.m.).
