STONY BROOK, NY - The Temple women's soccer team (2-4) defeated Iona College (0-5-1), 2-0, in the first game of the Holiday Inn Express Tournament at Stony Brook University on September 19. Sophomore twin sisters Samantha (one goal, one assist) and Stephanie Vietry (one goal) led the Owl offensive attack.

Samantha Vietry scored the opening goal of tournament in the 38th minute of play. Sophomore defender Trish Dalton added an assist on the early score. Halfway through the second half, Stephanie Vietry knocked in the game-winner off a pass from her twin sister. During the victory, Temple held Iona to six shots.

Sophomore goalie Jackie Mauro recorded her first shutout of the season with four saves in the game. Iona keeper Alicia Wisnewski registered five saves.

Temple will continue play in the Holiday Inn Express Tournament facing Stony Brook University (4-0-2), which defeated St. Peter's, 3-0, in the tournament's second game, on Sunday, September 21 at 2:30 p.m.
