WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS DEFEATS BRIDGEPORT TO WIN SEASON OPENER

BRIDGEPORT, CT -- Featuring a diverse line-up of three true freshmen through two experienced seniors, the Temple women gymnastics team defeated Bridgeport 186.925 to 183.200 in its season opener on the road.

The Owls swept all four events by capturing first place on every apparatus. Freshman Noelle Moore led the Owl effort by earning first-place honors in two events. Moore scored a 9.700 on floor exercise and a 9.650 on beam. Junior captain Erin Davis recorded the highest score of the meet on uneven bars with a 9.550. Fellow junior Alexis Zafferes won the vault competition by scoring a 9.650.

Seniors Jennifer Beaver and Paige Ozaroski also provided strong performances for the Owls by capturing second-place honors in their respective events. Beaver and Ozaroski tied for second-place on beam with a 9.550 score. Ozaroski also earned a second-place on uneven bars with a score of 9.500.

Only two gymnasts competed in the all-around competition, both from Temple. Moore earned a 37.750 score, while classmate Jillian Kornett posted a 35.950 score in the competition.

The Temple women's gymnastics team next competes in the George Washington Invitational on Sunday, January 18.
