PISCATAWAY, NJ -- Despite strong performances from senior captain Jennifer Beaver, junior Alexis Zafferes, and freshman Noelle Moore, the Temple women's gymnastics team lost to Rutgers 193.800-190.70 on Wednesday evening at the Livingston Recreation Center.
Zafferes provided the Owls with their only first-place finish in the meet by earning a 9.700 on vault. Moore, a true freshman, earned second place on both vault (9.700) and floor (9.850). Beaver finished second on beam with a score of 9.825. Senior Paige Ozaroski also assisted in the Owl effort by placing third on bars with a 9.750.
For the Scarlet Knights, senior Lisa Abrams broke the Rutgers balance beam record with a 9.925 score. Abrams shattered Dana Koga's score of 9.000 set in 1999.
The Temple women's gymnastics team will be back in action on Saturday, January 31 when they compete against Maryland, James Madison, and Towson on the road.
