WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HITS THE ROAD FOR A NON-CONFERENCE SHOWDOWN WITH RUTGERS

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After posting four straight Atlantic Conference wins, the Temple women's basketball team ventures out of conference to take on Rutgers on January 21 at the Louis Brown Athletic Center at 7:30 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for December 6, 2003 but was postponed due to inclement weather.

Rutgers holds the all-time series lead 28-7. The Owls are 1-1 against the Scarlet Knights in the Dawn Staley Era with each team winning on the other's home floor. Rutgers has a 15 RPI according to the latest WBCA/Summerville report and a strength of schedule rank of third. The teams have two common opponents in Villanova and LSU. Rutgers lost to the Lady Tigers, 78-68 on December 2 while Temple fell in Baton Rouge, La., 68-52 on December 22. The Scarlet Knights also lost to Villanova on January 9, 53-49 while the Owls were bested by the Wildcats, 66-57 on December 19.

Sophomore center Candice Dupree is Temple's scoring (15.5 ppg.) and rebounding (7.2 rpg.)leader. Dupree is also the A-10 leader and ranked 8th in the latest national rankings in field goal percentage (63.1 percent). Junior guard Cynthia Jordan, the Owls' number two scoring threat (10.4 ppg.) is the team leader in assists (4.5 apg.) and tops the A-10 in assist/turnover ratio (2.25/1).

Junior guard Cappie Pondexter leads Rutgers in scoring at 16.9 points per game and assists at 4.1 assists per contest. Senior forward Shalicia Hurns is the Scarlet Knights top rebounder at 6.8 boards per game.

There will be no Philadelphia area broadcast of the game.
