1.23.04 | Women's Basketball
Joining Jordan in double figures were junior forward Ari Moore, who tied a career-high with 19 points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds for her first double-double in a Temple uniform and Candice Dupree, who had her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Kate Flavin led Richmond with 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Joining her in double figures were Amber Goppert (14 points) and Christina Campion (11 points) for the Spiders.
Richmond (13-5, 5-2 A-10) controlled the game early, jumping out to a 9-0 lead on its way to a 31-23 halftime advantage. In the second stanza, Temple (9-7, 5-0 A-10) turned up the defensive pressure and grabbed its first lead of the game, 58-57, on a Dupree layup with 3:32 left in regulation. Dupree was big in the overtime as well as she put the Owls ahead for good 71-70 with seven seconds remaining in the extra session on a clutch foul shot. The 6-2 sophomore was shooting just 46 percent from the charity stripe on the season but was 5-6 on a night when her team needed it the most.
"I was really proud of the way we stuck together," said coach Dawn Staley. "Our bench was in it, the crowd was in it... it was a great win for us."
There is no rest for the weary as the Owls will play their fourth game in eight days when they make the short trip to Saint Joseph's (11-4, 6-0 A-10) for a battle of A-10 unbeatens on Sunday, January 25. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
