PHILADELPHIA - Freshman guard Britney Jordan scored a team-high 17 points on 7-9 shooting to lead the Temple women's basketball team past Massachusetts, 63-52 on January 29 at the Liacouras Center. With the win, the Owls improve to 11-7 overall and remain unbeaten (7-0) in Atlantic 10 Conference play.

Joining Jordan, who was a perfect 3-3 from three point range, in double figures was sophomore center Candice Dupree with 10 points. Senior forward Toni Belafonte added nine points and was 3-5 from beyond the arc, while fellow senior Christena Hamilton also had nine points and five assists.

Edris Bailey led all scorers with a game-high 18 points while grabbing a game-high seven rebounds for Massachusetts (5-14, 1-7 A-10). Tamara Tatham (12 points) and Joyce Massey (11 points) were the other double digit scorers for the Minuetwomen.

Temple controlled the game throughout and led 38-25 at the half. In the second stanza the Owls were a little careless with the basketball and the Minutewomen closed the gap to seven points, 55-48 with 3:17 remaining on the clock. But Temple withstood the challenge and preserved the double digit win.

"We just had some players lose their composure and that's uncharacteristic," said coach Dawn Staley. "When you do that, anything can happen. I told our team that if the game was three minutes longer, I am not sure what the outcome would be."

The Owls will next travel to Kingston, Rhode Island to face the Rams on Sunday, February 1 at the Ryan Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
