HARRISONBURG, VA -- The Temple University golf team finished eighth out of 15 schools after shooting a three round 867 (296-278-293) at the James Madison Invitational. The tournament was played Saturday and Sunday, October 9-10, on the par 71, 6,496-yard Lakeview Golf Course.
Temple sophomore Logan Terry paced the Owls, shooting a one-over par 214 (71-68-75) to finish tied for 17th place in the 84-player event. Senior Billy Mullen was the team's next top performer, carding a two-over 215 (79-66-70) to finish tied for 19th position. Pat Garrison (t-36th, 73-72-74=219), Patrick O'Neill (t-65th, 74-72-81=227) and James Boose (t-65th, 78-75-74=227) comprised the rest of the Cherry & White scorecard.
Towson overcame a seven stroke deficit entering the final round to overtake Rutgers and win the tournament with a 839 (282-281-276) score. The Scarlet Knights finished five strokes behind in second place with a 844 (285-271-288) effort. Towson's Jeff Castle utililized an event-best, eight-under par round of 63 on Sunday to win the individual crown with a 13-under 200 (70-67-63) performance.
The Owls, under the direction of first-year coach Brian Rogers, return to the links for the Philadelphia Big 5 Championship, held Oct. 15-16 at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Flourtown, Pa.
