PHILADELPHIA - Temple University senior midfielder Steven Wacker has been named to the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men's Soccer Second Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wacker becomes just the second Temple men's soccer player to earn Academic All-America honors joining former Owl goalkeeper Ken Clark, who was named to the 1998 Academic All-America Men's At-Large Third Team.
Wacker, a four-year starter and team captain, had his best offensive season of his career. The Philadelphia native (Northeast Catholic) tied for sixth on the Owls in scoring with two goals and four assists for eight points. He also earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors, helping the Owls post a 12-8-2 record and reach the conference finals for the second straight season.
Academically, he has earned a 3.89 cumulative grade point average while majoring in kinesiology. A second team Academic All-District honoree in 2003, Wacker was one of 10 Temple student-athletes named to the Trustees Honor Roll at the University's Breakfast of Champions held in April, 2003.
