PHILADELPHIA -- Temple University senior midfielder Steven Wacker has been named to the 2004 Academic All-District II University Division Men's Soccer first team while senior defender Andy Watto earned a spot on the second team.  The teams, which are selected by a vote of the district's sports information directors, were announced Thursday, November 4.

Wacker, a four-year starter and team captain, is having his best offensive season of his career.  The Philadelphia native (Northeast Catholic) is tied for third on the Owls in scoring with two goals and four assists for eight points.  Academically, he has earned a 3.89 cumulative grade point average while majoring in kinesiology.  A second team Academic All-District honoree in 2003, Wacker was one of 10 Temple student-athletes named to the Trustees Honor Roll at the University's Breakfast of Champions held in April, 2003.

Watto, a two-year starter, has helped the Temple defense post seven shutouts and hold opponents to 0.97 goals per game in 2004.   A Lansdale, PA native (Lansdale Catholic), he has earned a 3.73 cumulative grade point average while majoring in criminal justice.

The two seniors have helped Temple post consecutive winning seasons in men's soccer.  The Owls (9-7-2, 6-2-2 in A-10 play), which have already qualified for next week's Atlantic 10 Tournament (11/11-14), travel to Saint Joseph's Saturday (7:00 p.m.) for their regular season finale.
