PHILADELPHIA - After a two-game Thanksgiving tour of Tennessee, the Temple Owls (2-2) return home to take on Morgan State tonight at 7 p.m. at the Liacouras Center. The Philadelphia Big 5 in partnership with the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank will also collect nonperishable food items at tonight's game.
The Owls (2-2) are coming off a 52-48 loss at the hands of last week's #1-ranked Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. Temple, which held UT to just 32% shooting for the game, took a 9-0 lead to begin the game and never trailed by more than five throughout the rest of the contest. Senior Cynthia Jordan poured in game-highs of 14 points and nine rebounds, while fellow senior Ari Moore chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds. As a team, Temple out-rebounded the Lady Vols 42-39. Moore totaled 31 points and 16 rebounds last week, garnering her Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week Honors.
Senior Candice Dupree leads the way for TU with 13.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per game to pace four Owls in double figures. She is followed by Moore (12.8 ppg), Hairston (10.3 ppg.) and Jordan (10.3 ppg).
The Owls travel to Florida this weekend to take on the University of Florida on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Morgan State is coming off of a 82-62 loss to MEAC opponent Coppin State on November 27. Morgan State shot only 17% in the opening half, and could not slow down a Coppin State assault led by 6-3 center Leisel Harry. Harry scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a dominant performance on both ends of the floor. The Lady Bears got a very productive game from Sharonda Watson who led Morgan with 21 points.
Watson is averaging a team-high 11.3 ppg, while Candace Holmes averages 4.7 rpg.
