MEN'S SOCCER NAMED SOCCER SEVEN TEAM OF THE YEAR; HANNIGAN, WACKER, MACWILLIAMS EARN MAJOR AWARDS

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple University was the dominant presence at the annual Philadelphia Soccer Seven Awards Dinner held on Thursday night at the Holiday Inn City Line just at it had been during the 2004 men's soccer season.  Seniors Patrick Hannigan and Steven Wacker were named PSS Player of the Year and Academic Player of the Year, respectively while head coach David MacWilliams was named the league's Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Temple, which finished the year with a 12-8-2 record, 2-0 in PSS play, was voted the Team of the Year by the league coaches.  The Owls advanced to the Atlantic 10 Conference championship game for the second straight season.

Three other Owls, senior Nate Webb and juniors Tony Donatelli and Joe Brocker, joined Hannigan, who had earned co-Player of the Year honors in 2003, and Wacker on the PSS all-league team.  Donatelli also picked up two other PSS awards. He received a trophy for leading the league in assists with nine, and also one for leading the league in scoring with 21 points (0.95 ppg.).

Hannigan posted an 11-7-2 record in goal for the Owls with a Soccer Seven high eight shutouts.  He made 89 saves fro a .817 percentage and compiled a 1.00 goals against average.b

Wacker, a kinesiology major, owns a 3.89 cumulative grade point average.  It is his third academic honor of the year.  He previously was named academic all-Atlantic 10 and ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-America.
