WOMEN'S HOOPS KNOCKS OFF DUQUESNE, 64-55

PHILADELPHIA - Junior guard Cynthia Jordan led all scorers with 25 points as the Temple women's basketball team (14-8, 10-1 A-10) defeated Duquesne (12-11, 7-5 A-10), 64-55 on February 12 at the Liacouras Center. The win, coupled with a 61-51 loss by Saint Joseph's to Rhode Island, gives the Owls a two-game lead in the Atlantic 10's East Division with five games remaining on the schedule.

Jordan also set a career-high for made three-pointers with five and tallied three steals. Joining her in double figures was sophomore center Candice Dupree with 14 points. Dupree added a team-high eight rebounds, tied a season-high with five blocks and added two steals.

A-10 scoring leader Candace Futrell led Duquesne with 23 points. Maria Stankevich, who was the only other Dukes player in double figures, topped all rebounders with a game-high nine boards.

In a game that saw a total of 43 turnovers, the Owls did not seize control until Jordan nailed a three with 4:15 remaining in the game to put Temple up for good, 51-50. The junior co-captain hit another trey at the 1:12 mark to put the Owls ahead 56-50 effectively sealing the win.

Next up for Temple, a visit from St. Bonaventure as part of a men's/women's Valentine's Day doubleheader on Saturday, February 14. The men will battle Georgetown at 2:00 p.m. followed by the women's game which is scheduled to tip-off at 4:30.
