PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's gymnastics team swept the top three spots on vault to start the meet and never looked back. The Owls, who led the team scoring throughout the meet, edged the Quakers 189.775-189.175 in their home opener in McGonigle Hall on Thursday, February 5.

Junior Alexis Zafferes and twin sisters junior Katie and sophomore Betsy Domenico dominated the vault competition. With her 9.825 personal-best finish, Zafferes remains unbeaten in dual meet action. Katie Domenico took second on vault with a 9.600 score, while sister Betsy scored a personal-best 9.575.

Senior Paige Ozaroski aided significantly to the Owl effort by tying Penn's Leah Moon for first on beam. Ozaroski's powerful, yet graceful routine earned her a 9.775 first-place finish on the apparatus. Ozaroski also placed second on bars (9.625) behind junior Erin Davis, who won the event with a 9.650 score.

The Quakers managed one first-place finish in the meet on floor exercise. Sophomore Laura Duros won the event with the meet's highest score, a 9.900. Sophomore Emily Petkun picked-up a second-place finish on floor exercise (9.775), while junior Leah Moon took second on beam with a 9.775.

With the win over Penn, the Temple improves its overall record to 7-4. The Owls, 2-0, against the Quakers this season will meet them this week for the final competition. Temple travels across town on Sunday, February 8 to compete in a quad meet hosted by Penn. Ursinus and West Chester will also be in attendance.
