Hamilton, who shot 8-17 from the field, was the only Owl to score in double figures. Junior forward Ari Moore added eight points and senior Toni Belafonte chipped in with seven for Temple. Sophomore center Candice Dupree, who was held to single digits in the scoring column (six points) for just the fourth time this season. Dupree was 3-3 from the field and led the Owls in rebounding with nine boards.
Stefanie Miller and Angela Cape led a trio of double digit scorers for Dayton with 13 points apiece. Amber Peterink added 12 points for the Flyers. Cape was Dayton's top rebounder with nine.
In a game that had only two lead changes, Temple (12-8, 8-1 A-10) was in command for most of the night. The Owls led 37-22 at halftime and pushed the advantage to as many as 20 points (50-30) with 12:05 remaining in the contest. But Dayton (3-18, 1-9 A-10) battled back and made the game a nail biter in the closing moments. While the shooting was even, Temple held the edge in rebounding (37-33), steals (7-5), blocked shots (4-1), assists (16-11) and forced 15 Dayton turnovers while committing 10. Dayton did have the advantage from the free throw line hitting 11-13 (84.6 percent) while Temple was 9-18 (50 percent).
The Owls continue their Ohio road trip on Sunday, February 8 when they face Xavier at the Cintas Center in a game that willl be televised on ESPN 2. Tip-off is at 4:00 p.m.
