TEMPLE WOMEN TOP URSINUS AND WEST CHESTER TO FINISH SECOND IN QUAD MEET AT PENN

PHILADELPHIA -- Led by Alexis Zafferes's and Erin Davis's first-place finishes on the vault and bars, the Temple women's gymnastics team scored 190.45 to finish second in a quad meet with Penn, Ursinus, and West Chester on Sunday, February 8 at Hutch Gym.

The meet marked the third and final meeting this season between the Quakers and the Owls. For the first time this season, the host Quakers topped Temple with score of 192.725. Penn set a new school record with its final overall team score. Ursinus finished third in the meet with a 186.225 score, while West Chester scored 180.775.

Temple's vault team scored big once again as it earned a 48.450, the best score in the history of Temple women's gymnastics. Junior Zafferes and sophomore Katie Domenico led on the apparatus, taking the top two spots. Zafferes won the event with a 9.800 score, while Domenico tied her personal-best score with a 9.700 effort.

On bars junior Davis broke her personal best score to win the event with a 9.825 performance. Senior Paige Ozaroski tied Penn's Kara Dewhurst for second place in the event with a 9.775 score.

The Owls struggled throughout the beam and floor rotation. Temple placed only two competitors in the top five on beam. Ozaroski placed fourth on beam with a 9.575 score while sophomore Lindsey Stern finished fifth with a 9.550 score. Temple was unable to place any gymnast in a top five position on floor. Penn swept the event, taking all five spots.

The Owls are next in action February 13 at the Towson Invitational, where they will meet Towson, James Madison, and Rhode Island.
