2004 WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD OUTLOOK

Despite losing two of Temple's top four sprinters (Marirose Roach and Edith Lewis) to graduation graduated and Samantha Porter, who decided to forgo her senior your of eligibility the Owls will be led by Senior Aderonke Adeniyi is the returning indoor A-10 champion in the 200m and outdoor conference champion in the 100m and 200m. She was also a key member of the women's 4x100m relay (which also broke the A10 record) and 4x400m relay which both place first at the outdoor championship. The 4x400 meter relay also won the A-10 indoor championship. Returning members of the two relays are Adeniyi and sophomore Tiffany Duncan.
It is anticipated that Adeniyi will continue her winning ways and defending both her indoor and outdoor seasons. We also believe she will receive some help in the 55m, 100m and 200m from incoming freshman Kehnesha Oldacre from Trenton Central High School, Trenton, NJ.
Temple also qualified and participated in the ECAC (indoor and outdoor) and the NCAA outdoor Regionals.
Hurdles
Juniors Rachel Clinton, Jessica Dunston and senior Jaweia Campbell are expected to compete at a high level this season. Clinton is the returning indoor A10 champion in the 55m hurdles. She also placed second in the 110 High Hurdles in the outdoor A10 championships. She also qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 55m (indoor) and the 110 high Hurdles (outdoor). Dunston was the 2002 indoor 55m hurdle champion and placed a close second to Rachel Clinton in the 55m hurdles during 2003 indoor A10 Championship. Dunston is also the defending A10 2003 outdoor 110m high hurdle champion. Dunston also place a respectable 2nd place in the 400m hurdle in the A10 outdoor championships. Campbell placed fourth in the 55m high hurdles during the 2003 indoor season. Coach Philips is anticipating that Clinton and Dunston will challenge each other for 2004 indoor and outdoor hurdle titles.
Middle Distance
Returning to runners are senior Ruby Amanze, juniors Tanesha Shelton and Farren Benson, sophomores Aisha Raheem and Tiffany Duncan. Two newcomers are freshmen Rachel Johnson and Tynesha Gardner. Amanze and Shelton will be returning as a key member of the 4x800m relay team which nearly broke Temples School indoor record during the 2003 indoor season. Both are expected to place will in the 1000m during the indoor season and 800m during the outdoor season. Raheem placed second in the 500m during the 2003 indoor A10 Championship. She was also a member of the 4x800m relay team and is Temple's top returning 500m and 800m runner. Raheem is expected to be one of the top 500m and 800m runners in the A10. Benson is easily one of Owls' most versatile runners, participating in both the 400m up to the 800m. She was injured last year, but was still able to perform as a leg on the 4x800m relay (indoor and outdoor) and place in the triple jump at the A10 outdoor championships. She is expected to do well this year in the middle distance events and the triple jump.
Duncan placed third during the 2003 A-10 Championships and was a member of Temple's indoor and outdoor 4x400m relay teams. She is expected to be one of the top 400m and 500m runners in the A10.
Johnson and Gardner are both from Philadelphia High School for Girls.They will be participating in events from the 400m up to the 800m during the 2004 indoor and outdoor seasons. They are both expected to also earn spots on the 4x400m and the 4x800m relays.
Field Events
Junior Jillian Faulks and freshman Erin Davis will compete in the field events. Faulks, this season will be one of Temple's primary triple jumpers. Last season; she made the Triple jump final at the A10 Championships. This year she is expected to place. Davis is joining us from South Cannon High School in Pennsylvania where she won the Pennsylvania State Championship in the High Jump. We expect for her to place very high this year in the A10 Championships and qualify for ECAC and possibly to NCAA.
