WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO FACE XAVIER IN A-10 QUARTEFINALS

PHILADELPHIA - 2004 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, Dawn Staley will guide the Temple women's basketball team (18-9, 14-2 A-10) the number one seed in the East, as it will face West number four Xavier (17-11, 8-8 A-10) in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday, March 6 at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on the campus of Saint Joseph's University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
Temple enters the game having earned a bye in the first round. Xavier earned the right to face the Owls following its 63-57 double overtime win over East number five seed Fordham in the opening round of the Championships on March 5. Temple defeated Xavier, 61-50 on February 8, 2004 at the Cintas Center in the only meeting between the two schools this season. The Owls are 13-19 overall in Atlantic 10 Championship play, including a 5-2 mark in the Dawn Staley Era. Temple is 3-0 in A-10 Quarterfinal games under Staley.
Sophomore center Candice Dupree, a second team all-conference and all-defensive team selection, leads Temple in scoring (13.9 ppg.) and rebounding (7.1 rpg.). Junior guard Cynthia Jordan is the Owls' number two scoring option at 9.7 points per game, leads the team in assists at 3.9 per contest and tops the Atlantic 10 in assist/turnover ratio (1.7/1). Freshman guard Britney Jordan, who was named the the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team, provides scoring punch off the bench and leads the league in three-point field goal percentage (48.1 percent)
Sophomore Tara Boothe, a first team all-conference selection, leads Xavier in both scoring (18.6 ppg.) and rebounding (7.6 rpg.). Suntana Granderson, a member of the all-rookie team, is the Musketeers' second-leading scorer at 10 points per game.
