WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO FACE RICHMOND IN A-10 SEMIFINALS

PHILADELPHIA - Fresh off its comeback 55-48 win over Xavier in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship, the East number one seed Temple women's basketball team will take on West number two Richmond in the A-10 Semifinals on March 7 at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse on the campus of Saint Joseph's University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast through A-10 TV and can be sen locally on Comcast Sportsnet with Larry Rosen and Megan Keating calling the action.
Richmond enters the matchup riding a seven-game win streak. Temple has won the last two meetings between the two schools by a total of four points. Most recently, the Owls defeated the Spiders 72-70 in overtime on January 23 at the Liacouras Center. Temple also bested Richmond in last season's A-10 Quarterfinal, 58-56. Richmond boasts the league's top scoring offense (70.8 ppg.) while Temple owns the A-10's number two scoring defense (58.5 ppg.). Temple is 14-19 all-time in Atlantic 10 Tournament games and 6-2 under head coach Dawn Staley.
Sophomore center Candice Dupree, a member of the Atlantic 10's All-Defensive team and a second team all-conference selection, leads the Owls in both scoring (14.0 ppg.) and rebounding (7.2 rpg.). Dupree topped Temple with 16 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots in its win over Xavier. Junior guard Cynthia Jordan, the Owls' number two scorer at 9.6 points per game, leads Temple in assists (3.8 apg.) and tops the conference in assist/turnover ratio (1.7/1)
Junior forward Kate Flavin, a first-team all-conference performer, tops a trio of double-digit scorers for Richmond, averaging 18.6 points per game while also leading the A-10 in rebounding at 9.3 boards per contest. Sophomore guard Saona Chapman ranks second on the team in scoring at 13.7 points per outing and dished out a team-leading 5.2 assists per game during the regular season.
