OWLS FINISH SEVENTH AT A-10 MEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

MONROEVILLE, PA-The Temple men's tennis team, seeded No. 7, defeated No. 8 Rhode Island 4-0 Saturday to finish seventh at the Atlantic 10 Championships held at the Oxford Athletic Club, April 8-10. The Owls were one of seven squads in the 11-team tournament to finish as per their seeding.
Temple captured the double points to gain an early advantage, as Tyler Wynn and Yhonny Murray downed Rob Sutphen and Dustin Parente 8-3 in first singles. In third singles, the TU duo of Matt Struble and James Logan defeated Geoff Peterson and Pat McGuire 8-1.
The Cherry & White then proceeded to get the job done in singles play. Murray defeated Parente 6-0, 6-1 in second singles while Jon Sy and Logan completed the sweep in fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Wynn, Struble and Elad Ziv had their singles matches halted after the Owls gained the required four points for victory.
No. 1-seed Richmond captured the Championship with a 4-1 victory over No. 2 George Washington to earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship and win its second league crown. It was the Spiders third appearance in the title match in its three years with the conference while the Colonials were competing in their 10th title match.
The All-Championship Team will be voted upon by the coaches and released the week of April 19.
