TEMPLE WINS SCOTTY DUNCAN MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

MIDDLETOWN, DE - Temple shot a two-round 602 (294-308) to win the Scotty Duncan Memorial Golf Tournament by 12 strokes over host Delaware (297-317=614) at Back Creek Country Club. Junior Patrick O'Neill carded a four-over par 146 (70-76) to pace the Owls and capture the individual crown on the par 71, 7,003-yard course that played host to 10 schools at the event held April 24-25.
The title marks Temple's first team tournament victory since winning the Golden Horseshoe Colonial Invitational in Spring 2000. The Owls, under the direction of third-year head coach Bill Mannino, have placed fourth or better in four of the five tournaments they have competed this spring.
O'Neill becomes the first Temple golfer to win an individual event crown since Jon Rusk captured the Atlantic 10 Conference title in Spring 2002. It also marks O'Neill's sixth career top 10 showing.
Senior team captain James Chan (T-4th, 75-76=151), freshman Logan Terry (7th, 75-77=152) and junior Billy Mullen (T-8th; 74-79=153) also posted top 10 efforts for the Owls. Junior Matt Roberts (T-21st; 77-82=159) rounded-out the Cherry & White scorecard.
Temple returns to the links April 30-May 2 at the A-10 Championships, held at Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, R.I.
