MEN'S TENNIS FALLS TO XAVIER 4-0 AT A-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS

MONROEVILLE, PA-The Temple men's tennis team, seeded No. 7, suffered a 4-0 defeat to No. 5 Xavier Friday afternoon in a fifth-place bracket game at the Oxford Athletic Club during the Atlantic 10 Championships. The Owls will face No. 8 Rhode Island at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday in a seventh place consolation match.
In singles action, Xavier's Rob Simpson downed Elad Ziv (6-2, 6-2) in fourth singles, while Temple's Jon Sy (fifth singles; 6-3, 6-1) and James Logan (sixth singles; 6-3, 6-0) also suffered losses. In doubles play, the Musketeer duo of Justin Yeager and Brad Meadows defeated the Temple pair of Tyler Wynn and Yhonny Murray (8-3), while Xavier's J.R. Randall and Matt Zollman downed the TU duo of Sy and Ziv (8-2).
Wynn, Murray and Matt Struble, the Owls' top three players, had their respective singles matches halted after the Musketeers gained the four required points for team victory. Wynn was leading Randall (6-2, 5-2, 3-4) in first singles play at the time.
No. 1-seed Richmond and No. 2 George Washington advanced to the championship match slated for 11:00 am Saturday. The Spiders advanced after a 4-1 triumph over No. 4 St. Bonaventure in the second match of the day. The Colonials advanced after a 4-2 win over No. 3 Saint Joseph's. George Washington and Richmond both have one title each -- UR in 2002 and GW in 1979.
