JAMES CHAN EARNS SECOND CONSECUTIVE ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCE GOLF STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AWARD

PHILADELPHIA -- Temple University senior James Chan has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Student-Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. A three-time A-10 All-Academic honoree (2002-04), Chan is the first Temple student-athlete to earn multiple A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year awards in the same sport.
Chan maintains a 3.73 cumulative grade point average in finance. He was named the Temple University Male Student-Athlete of the Year by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at the 2004 Breakfast of Champions in April. Chan has been cited on either the Dean's List or Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester since enrolling at Temple in the fall of 2000.
A two-time team captain, Chan competed in all six tournaments and had a 76.2 stroke average playing a total of 13 rounds this past spring. He placed tied for seventh at the Yale Spring Open and tied for fourth at the Scotty Duncan Memorial. He carded four rounds of 74 or better and finished tied for 18th at the A-10 Championships.
For his career, Chan participated in 45 events, playing 96.5 rounds and posting eight top 10 finishes. A four-year varsity letterwinner with a 77.5 career stroke average, he was an all-league selection in 2001 and 2003 and placed in the top 10 three times (2001-2003) at the A-10 Championships.
Voting for the Atlantic 10 Golf Student-Athlete of the Year and all-academic team is conducted among the league's Sports Information Directors. Joining Chan on the 2004 all-academic squad are George Washington's Brian Carroll; Tom Hungerford of Duquesne; Richmond's Steve Lessing; Adam Myers of Dayton and St. Bonaventure's Jeff Tracy.
